Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
The removal of the womb (uterus) is basically termed as hysterectomy. And surgery which is used to remove this womb through laparoscope is called laparoscopic hysterectomy. It has several advantages when compared with tummy cut hysterectomy (abdominal hysterectomy). By making incision in vaginal cuff, the cervix and uterus are finally isolated from the surrounding structures, by allowing the uterus to be removed through the vagina. A stitch is then used to close the upper part of the vagina and reconstruct the attachment of the upper vagina to the “Uterosacral ligaments”. After the operation, the pelvis is checked for bleeding, then irrigated and a drain is placed through one of the small incisions on either side of the abdomen. This is used to remove excess fluid, gas and confirm that there is no new bleeding post-operatively.
